WHEN I GET OLDER I WILL BE STRONGER

The FIFA 2010 just got over and “Spain” is the new crowned world champions, my hearty congratulations to the Spanish team, but the charisma of the game is such that the hangover is still ON. The event was such a massive attraction for the Soccer fans across the globe, but outside the game too there were so many things associated to the FIFA 2010 world cup that caught everyone’s attention and one of them was the music. There were couple of very popular famous music numbers created as the official songs for the FIFA 2010 world cup namely- “Waka Waka” courtesy Shakira and “Wavin’ the Flag” by K’naan, but the song that really caught up with my mood was-“Wavin’ the Flag” by K’naan. For me this song was simply amazing, the lyrics were wonderful and the song went so well with the mood of celebration of the game. Certainly, “Wavin’ the Flag” is at vantage for me.

After doing a research about the song and its lyrics, I found that K’naan actually first wrote a poem about his childhood experiences in Somalia and while he was performing the poem at the UN High Commission for refugees as part of the social activity Youssour N’Dor saw K’naan and decided to call him to Senegal for the recording of the song. Later, the song became so popular that it became the official celebration mix for Coco-Cola and one of the FIFA 2010 world cup’s celebration anthem. Still for me the real winner is the lyrics of the song- “When I get older I will be stronger, They’ll call me freedom, just like a wavin’ flag”, these are surely bold and self affirmative lines that can motivate anyone in any situation. My best part of the song is-

Out of the darkness, I came the farthest.
Among the hardest survival.
Learn from these streets, it can be bleak,
Accept no defeat, surrender, retreat.

Wow, for those wonderful lines. The message is loud and clear- Don’t give up and keep going, you will come out stronger and the victory will be yours. Isn’t it the perfect message?? A perfect music for thought and a perfect catalyst to kick start your mission impossible. A big thumps up to K’naan for this very special song. I found this song really motivating and inspiring, do share what you think about it??
